Not Going "To the Beach" This Summer!

I have at last decided; I'm not going to get anything from MAC To the Beach collection. First of all, I won't say anything bad about the collection whatsoever because it actually IS a nice collection in my opinion. I've never felt THIS excited about any of MAC's collections before. From the face, eyes, to the lip products, there's at least one thing I'd love to own. From the face department, I had my eyes on Hipness blush and Weekend cream bronzer. Lipsticks; I would love to pick up Beachbound and Lazy Day. Eyes; both of the kohls grabbed my attention as well as the Sweet & Punchy eyeshadow. But here's the truth: I can't afford getting them all! I tried scratching some of these products off of my wishlist, but they keep haunting me. Is this healthy at all? I don't think so.

Bottom point is: I hate feeling like this. It's such an uneasy feeling to know that they are all limited edition products and that once they're out of stock, I wouldn't have another chance to get my hands on them (unless they get repromote). This makes me feel so powerless, and I don't like that. For God's sake, it's only cosmetics! I kept thinking about it; will I feel so devastated if I miss this collection? I remember that I was so enthusiastic too about some of MAC's cremesheen lipglasses from the Too Fabulous collection and after I really did pass on them, I didn't feel that bad at all. I actually felt pretty liberated and life goes on.

I think sometimes we just have to take a step back and inhale. I feel like this pressure cosmetic companies put on us by releasing limited edition stuff is getting a bit cruel. Especially now that I've heard some rumors that the eyeshadow I'm eyeing on is not that pigmented and that the kohls don't last long, I can't help but to think twice before actually purchasing them. I mean, they put such a high price tag in the first place, I shouldn't have to be this worried about the quality of the products. But that's the fact; I am worried. So here I am, saying goodbye to MAC To the Beach.

I still have a few things from the permanent line that I'd love to get though. From now on, I'm going to prioritize getting them one by one before caring about any of MAC collections. I think that sounds pretty good. Besides, with limited edition products, I would hate it if I fall in love with one thing but when I finally finish it up, I could never repurchase it.

Well, that was my two cents about limited edition releases. I'm not against them, but I just don't like the idea of buying them out of pressure or fear. That's not fun at all. If you are more fortunate than me to get an opportunity to test the products in person before buying them, I'm happy for you. Therefore you don't have to go through what I'm going through now, lol. But for us girls who don't have the privilege, do think twice and be wise with your hard-earned money. That's all I'm saying.

Have a great week, everyone!

  2. In my opinion, I definitely think many many times before I purchase anything! Right with limited edition, I have nothing against them too but I won't definitely purchase JUST because they are limited!

  3. Good job, Fifi! I completely agree and I can't help thinking sometimes that maybe MAC's quality is compromised now that they keep focusing on packaging and repromoting some of their old stuff. The price tag is so high and if you get bad quality or even just "ok" quality products, it's not fair!

  4. Great post Fifi, I agree with you 100%. Sometimes I'll go run out and get something from a limited edition collection (because of hype) only to realize I only feel "meh" about it a few days later.

Sometimes it's annoying when a new collection comes out every month because I feel like they just slapped it all together to make more money as opposed to other companies that release one really good collection a season.

I also need to remember that it's just makeup too. ^^

  5. Hi Fifi! Yeah, at the end of the day it's just makeup. I don't really get too excited at all about upcoming makeup items from any brand. I'll probably pick up a couple of things at the mall if I happen to pass by MAC but I don't think about it much. I think prioritizing as you said, is a good idea :)
Oh and I tagged you Hun!

  6. Whenever I feel pressured like this, I think about real makeup artists like Gossmakeupartist or Kandee Johnson. You never see them ranting and raving about every darn collection MAC comes out with. Instead, their talent and superbly tailored makeup collection speaks for itself. That helps me take a step back and walk away from the counter.

  7. Great post, it's nice to read your opinion!
I agree that MAC is getting expensive, here in Argentina it's becoming abuse! If it weren't for my PRO card I wouldn't get anything.
And the LE factor...I missed out on Spring Forecast, I was looking forward to it. Now I found out that Liberty of London isn't getting here...I'm upset but it's not the end of the world. Knowing MAC, they'll repromote the best sellers, so, patience.
    Have a lovely week!

  8. I was actually talking to my boyfriend about these with the all ages all races etc collection and thinking "they're so smart for making all these limited edition collections!" I mean some girls are allured by the appeal of the "limited"-ness and just buy it even if they might not like it. I only own a few things from MAC, so my opinion on the products could be wrong.

I also agree on your statement "with limited edition products, I would hate it if I fall in love with one thing but when I finally finish it up, I could never repurchase it." omgggg I bought the lipstick in "myself" from the all ages collection and I absolutely love it but I can never buy it again! sad....

okay to end my loooong comment I just wanted to say I'm proud of you for restraining yourself. We live in a materialistic excessive world and these things will definitely tempt us every second, but the fact that you could hold back is great :)

  9. Indeed. Damn them limited edition stuff. I find myself so broke too.. still trying to get a darn job!! Grrrr!!
I totally agree though with you. I usually hate getting something (like skincare) that I know that I will finish eventually and would hate for it to be limited edition. That's why I'm a little more careful now when I fall 'in love' with something. I know nothing lasts forever and try to love and depend on a couple of things rather than just one (jussst in case).

  10. That's so true! We're so pressured into buying these things just because they're limited edition. I had a bazillion items on my list too but if you think about it, there are other products that are similar from other brands.. and those items are PERMANENT which means we don't have to feel that pressure. Plus, some of those other brands have way better quality.

  11. I totally agree with you! I hate that people take advantage of LE collections like buying multiples of Marine Life and selling it for $100 on ebay. There are things I want from MAC's permanent line, and I'd rather spend money on those and cherish my collection!
