I'm sure by now most of you have already heard about Coastal Scents palettes. I myself own 2 of them; this, and the 88 matte one. They're a-okay, to be honest with you. I can't say they're very suitable for makeup beginners because some of the eyeshadows are actually hard to blend. And you know how it is - if you want to practice blending, you're gonna need forgiving shadows. But at least for me, this particular palette has some of the loveliest browns and purples ever. That's why I still use this palette quite often. The 88 one, however, has kind of lost its appeal to me. I haven't even touched about half of the shades in that palette.
Some of these eyeshadows have better quality than the others. The matte ones are chalkier in texture compared to the shimmery ones. The lighter shades seem to refuse showing up on my skin, but with a good base, you can still pull off decent pigmentation out of them. One more drawback I could point out is the nonexistence of a highlight or base color. Sometimes when I use this palette, I have to dig around my stash to find a single highlight color to complete the look. Uncool.
I did post some swatches on the blushes last year but my pictures were blurry, so I'm just going to replace that post with this one. I had people stumbled on my blog googling about this palette, I don't want to scare them away with my old crappy swatches.
As you can see, there's a shade for every skin tone. Though, I admit, the 4th color tend to look muddy on me. I can never wear the 5th (the dark plum one) without overdoing it, so I'm left with the 1st and 3rd as favorites. The texture of these blushes, as you can probably tell from the swatches, is dry and a little chalky. I usually apply them by layering the color using a duo fibre brush.
Some people might worry about the sturdiness of the case considering how cheap this palette is. Well, I'd say, worry no more. I've had this palette for 1+ year and it's still as good as new. I'm one of the clumsiest girl you'll ever met; I drop and break things. LOL. So yes I've had this palette fell off of my grasp quite a few times before but none of the eyeshadows are shattered. They all still look fine and dandy.
All in all, I'd only recommend this palette if you're into the kind of neutral colors. It's a pretty versatile palette and could come in handy sometimes. I like creating natural everyday (boring) look to a luxurious gold-purple smokey look with it.
Does any of you own this palette too?
