GEO Ash Wing Circle Lenses + FOTD

I've finally caved in and got myself a pair of circle lenses a few days ago. It's the combination between peer pressure and curiosity. Haha! In Indonesia the hype started about what, 2-3 years ago? I remember back then circle lenses were still pretty expensive. Now that they are getting even more popular (I even have a guy friend who wears them!), the number of retailers has increased and the price has dropped. Good thing I waited, huh?

I got mine for not more than $11 (including shipping) from an Indonesian online shop. Be careful if you're going to buy Geo lenses online. I read somewhere that there are already fake lenses being sold for a lot cheaper. Also, if it's your first time buying them, go to Youtube and search a video on how to open the vials the right way. The metal casing is really sharp so you don't want to get hurt while opening it.

The real Korean-made Geo lenses come with authenticity stickers. You just scratch them and type the numbers into this website to check.

When I received the lenses I was pretty nervous about putting them on. My first experience with contact lenses wasn't very pleasant. But in the end I grew balls anyways (no choice - already bought the lenses, lol!) and put them on. To my surprise, they're actually more comfortable than my old colored contacts! Today I wore them for four hours before taking them off. I didn't use any eye drops at all during those hours and my eyes felt a-okay.

Geo OL-105 or "Ash Wing"
(in the catalogue it says CTS-105 though)

diameters: 14. mm
life span: 1 year
comfort: I would say they are very comfortable, not sure how long I can wear them but so far I have no problem whatsoever with them.
enlargement: they definitely make my eyes look bigger but not dramatically. I must say they look really natural on me. Under room lighting, I don't think people would notice me wearing them.

FOTD
I wore pink yesterday! I don't know, I just felt like doing a very girly look. ;) I also contoured the heck out of my jawlines! Hahaha. I haven't really found the perfect contouring powder. I mean, bronzers are okay, but they tend to make me look muddy? I guess a dark-colored powder would work much better? What do you use to contour your face?

EYES

- NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencil in strawberry milk
- Urban Decay eyeshadow in Sphynx (all over the lid)
- Urban Decay eyeshadow in YDK (crease)
- Urban Decay eyeshadow in Twice Baked (outer V)

- Too Faced eyeshadow in Highlight (browbone highlight)

FACE
- Monistat chafing gel as primer

If you're new to contact lenses, do some research on them first before actually purchasing them. I found some really helpful videos on Youtube about how to take care of your contact lenses, how to put them on, and so on.

Have you tried wearing circle lenses before? What do you think about them?

It's a beautiful day!

Hello guys! Merry Christmas for those celebrating and happy holidays!

I went "volcano tour" yesterday with my parents (who flew to Yogyakarta a few days ago to visit me) and my boyfriend since the weather was gorgeous. Well, we got stuck in traffic BEFORE we manage to get to the areas affected by last month's eruption. Mount Merapi is now in a safe state, so people are curious and start flocking the place for a little bit of "sightseeing", lol.

The picture above is the only picture of me without a bunch of other random people taking pictures in the background. This was at jembatan kali adem, by the way. I stood up at what used to be a dam. If you're in Yogyakarta too and plan to go to Merapi, it's better to go with motorcycle instead of a car. It gets pretty hectic up there (unless you go there on a weekday!).

After that we went to the zoo (truly unplanned!) and something caught my attention...

lol. I'm glad I brought my camera with me. Engrish discoveries are just priceless.

My favorite animal at the zoo was the Orang Utan. He's a friendly guy even though he's really old. We share the same birthplace, lol. Eastern Borneo FTW! :) I don't know what's wrong with people though, they're already told not to feed the animals but they keep throwing food at him. Gah people drive me nuts sometimes (quoting the IT Crowd; "People: what a bunch of bastards!" LOL I'm kidding).

He's doing a Stewie Griffin impression, "Gimme my money! Where's my money, Brian?" xD

That's all for today. I'm going to do a circle lenses review soon! :)

Makeup Tutorial: Evening Party Look

When I was looking through my stash of eyeshadows, I found a little jar of pigment called "Snow White" from The All Natural Face. It's a lovely shimmery white color that I think would be perfect for this holiday season. I would definitely wear this look to a New Year's Eve celebration party!

When I saw the eyeshadow I immediately thought of this Kim K look:

products used:
FACE
- monistat chafing gel as primer
- NYX concealer in jar
- MAC studio fix fluid foundation
- LT Pro translucent powder in ochre
- MAC sunbasque blush
- NARS albatross (cheekbone highlight)

LIPS
- PAC liquid lipstick in Lilac Sugar
- Clinique lipgloss in Guava Gold

EYES
- ELF mineral eyeshadow primer
- NYX jumbo eye pencil in strawberry milk
- The All Natural Face pigment in Snow White
- Milani eyeshadow in Java Bean
- Thevi matte eyeshadow #250
- Too Faced eyeshadow in Heaven, Silk Teddy
- Urban Decay deluxe eyeshadow in Zero
- Revlon fabuliner liquid eyeliner in black
- LT Pro waterproof pencil eyeliner in black
- Maybelline the Magnum mascara
- no-brand fake lashes

Onto the tutorial...

1. Start with primed eyes. I use ELF mineral eyeshadow primer.
2. I use NYX jumbo eye pencil in strawberry milk as a base. The pink color doesn't show up much on me, I use it for the shimmery effect only.

3. With a small shader brush, apply Snow White (or any shimmery white eyeshadow you have) all over the eyelid

4. Using a slanted eyeliner brush, draw a V shape on the outer corner with medium brown eyeshadow. I use Milani eyeshadow in Java Bean.

5. Apply a matte light brown color (Thevi Matte eyeshadow #250) just above the crease and blend.

6. Take a fluffier shader brush and apply a matte cream color as browbone highlight. I use my Too Faced eyeshadow in Heaven.

7. Take a small crease brush and apply matte black eyeshadow (Urban Decay in Zero) on your outer V to deepen your crease.
8. Also apply the black eyeshadow on the outer half of your lower lashline (I use ELF studio small precision brush for this step, it's a really versatile brush!)

9. Apply a shimmery cream color eyeshadow (Too Faced in Silk Teddy) on your inner corner and inner half of lower lashline.
10. Apply black eyeliner on upper lashline, white eyeliner on waterline, and mascara. You're done! (Don't forget to fill in your eyebrows though!)

Last pics, I swear.

I guess by now you've probably noticed that someone just jumped into the circle lenses bandwagon. ;) I'm wearing Geo circle lenses in Ash Wing (review coming up). I had a rather unpleasant first experience with colored contacts before but these Geo lenses are super comfortable on my eyes. So far I don't have any problem with them at all.

I hope you find the tutorial useful and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

One of My Favorite "Telly" Comedy

If you've ever wondered...
- what it's like working in an IT department with two nerds and an inept manager
- whether there's an apple inside every Apple Mac computer
- or whether typing "google" into Google will cause the internet to break
you ought to watch this show!

I have to admit that the first time I saw it, I was left scratching my head. I thought it was not my cup of tea but I gave it another chance since my boyfriend seemed to really enjoy it. After watching the second episode, I got hooked. This show might be "too silly" for some but for me, it's just a ridiculously fun show to watch. You don't necessarily have to be a fan of Richard Feynman or George Lucas to enjoy it. Most of the jokes are relate-able. I mean, who has never attempted to fix a gadget by turning it off and on again? That's a brilliant catch-phrase!

My boyfriend first introduced it to me along with The Big Bang Theory. To be honest, I like The IT Crowd better. Don't get me wrong, The Big Bang Theory is funny, but I think the writing gets dull after the first season. The IT Crowd has been through four seasons so far and though some of the episodes are funnier than the others, overall I think the show is well-written. I can tell that they put so much thought into details, like the clothes each character wears and how their workspace looks like.

The IT Crowd

Left: Moss. He's a very likable character despite of his minimal social skill.
Center: Jen. She bluffed her way into getting hired as the head of IT department but she actually lacks of basic computer knowledge. She thinks IT stands for "Internet Things".
Right: Roy. He hates his job and he always answers the phone with "Hello, have you tried turning it off and on again?"

Roy/Chris O Dowd
RTFM = Read The F***ing Manual

You can view some of IT Crowd's classic moments on Youtube. Here's one that cracks me up every time I see it. And here's one of my favorite jokes from the fourth season:
Moss and Roy got themselves stuck with a bomb disposal robot and a suspicious package. The guy operating the robot had some problems with his computer that he couldn't get the robot to move.
Computer guy: I'm just having a couple of problems with it!
Moss: What operating system does it use?
Computer guy: (Windows) Vista!
Moss:
WE'RE GOING TO DIE!!!
Roy: Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. I like this show. A LOT. So I hope you don't mind me sharing. One thing I'd like to know though: why do they only make 6 episodes per season there in the UK? I want more!

Cheapie Lippie

This was requested by Waa. She wanted me to swatch the LA Girl lipstick I wore on this FOTD. Here ya go. :)

LA Girl Luxury Creme Lip Color in Fling

I also have another one in "Secret Admirer" (a bright, barbie pink color), which I have already swatched here. The texture and the pigmentation of this lipstick are quite similar with NYX round lipstick's, except LA Girl feels a little less waxy. I think it's best worn on "good lip days", since it really accentuates lip lines and all.

This LA Girl lipstick is available on CherryCulture for $2.75. If you buy now, you can use the code "HS20" on checkout to get a 20% discount.

Review: Bare Escentuals bareVitamins Prime Time

Back in September I caved in and bought Bare Escentuals bareVitamins Prime Time Foundation Primer due to some glowing reviews I came across online. I have been testing it back and forth with various foundations. Honestly, I don't think it lives up to the hype. For $21/30ml, I expected something more out of this primer. Yes it does make my makeup applies smoother, but so do other silicone-based primers I've tried that cost less. My biggest disappointment is the fact that it aggravates my oiliness. It makes me look like a greaseball within a couple of hours. Uncool!

The texture of Prime Time is thick and greasy. I find it unpleasant smearing the product all over my face, not to mention that it also takes quite some time to fully dry. Once the primer's set, you'll have sort of a moisturized-looking complexion instead of matte. Perhaps people with dry skin would like this primer better than I do. But if you're oily-skinned like me, you might want to try Monistat instead since it dries matte and has better oil control (plus, it's A LOT cheaper!).

The following pictures demonstrate how the primer works. I purposely use more product than I would on my face so that my camera could pick up the difference.

freshly applied

once the primer is set, it would be invisible

with foundation on top (I use L'oreal White Perfect Liquid Foundation - yeah the color selection is a joke!)

The primer seems to really make the foundation applies smoother, right? You see, as for "priming" purpose, it does the job alright. But the oil control issue is a major let down for me. Not only that, if I put too much product on (which I do all the time since the pump sucks) it has the tendency to slide off my face. I would be left with that not so flattering uneven skin at the end of the day.

Summing up my review, this is a product that I won't recommend to those with oily skin. It's greasy, it takes a lot of time to set, but fortunately it didn't break me out. I've tried better primers with friendlier price tag than this so nope, certainly won't be repurchasing!

It's raining and I'm blogging about a lipgloss!

I'm starting to love this lipgloss by PAC!

It's in the color LG 02C, which I would describe as a peachy bronze color with golden shimmers. I guess this product retails around Rp 65.000? But I got it for Rp 55.000 at Toko Mutiara since it was discounted.

What I like most about this gloss is the fact that it feels moisturizing on the lips. I read at the back of the carton packaging that it does, in fact, contain moisturizer and Vitamin E. What's not to love?

For a gloss, I can say it has a decent pigmentation. The texture is thin and non-sticky. It lasted for a good two hours on me before the color and shine started to fade. I didn't detect any taste whatsoever, but it does have a subtle scent.

on my lips (on top of nothing else but a clear lipbalm)

As you can see, the shimmers are fine but still noticeable. I personally prefer wearing it on top of a nude lipstick. That way, the color of this gloss shows up a little more vibrant.

My eye makeup was done rather sloppily today but I just wanted to show how the gloss looks. I miss wearing gold eyeshadow so I slapped some on my eyelids and put plummy purple on the crease. Warm & cozy! :)
